Proud descendant of the waterproof coats designed by Charles Macintosh, the very first gabardine trench coat was created by Burberry.

Since its Hollywood success, the women's trench coat has been a regular fixture on the catwalks, where it continues to embody the quintessence of feminine elegance in a wide range of cuts and materials.

But the trench coat is also (and perhaps above all) a pretty, no-frills jacket that follows us around every day and enhances all our outfits.

If you're in a classic mood, pull out your flowing trench and opt for a black dress or skirt with a little sweater, complemented by pumps: chic allure guaranteed! More of a working girl? Wear your best raw denim jeans with a blouse and derbies under your trench coat.

Whatever your style: play with belts for variety! For a structured look, simply tie the belt in the front in the classic way, passing it through the buckle. Or tie it with a double knot at the front. Another trendy option is to tie the trenchcoat at the back to modernize it. In this case, wear it open.

What type of trench coat should I choose?

While long trench coats in beige are of course iconic, this windproof jacket is now available in a wide range of styles, cuts, colors and materials. And all to our delight!

Trench coats suit every body type: just choose the right cut and length. For example, if you're petite, a short or mid-length trench that reaches mid-thigh is ideal. For taller women, anything goes. For example, don't hesitate to opt for the ultra-trendy oversized trench.

When it comes to colors, beige, khaki, camel and dark blue are classic and timeless trench coats. The advantage? These tones can easily be combined with any color to create a look without false notes. That said, if you already own a classic, solid-color trench coat, why not try something a little more daring? Bi-material trench coats, for example, or printed trench coats (on the outside or inside for a more discreet touch) will sublimate beautiful basics (white t-shirt, jeans, sneakers...).
